Surrounded by the calm, azure waters of the Medditeranean sea, our island has plenty of beaches to offer. In summer when the local and tourists alike visit the beaches to relax, and enjoy the sun, it can be almost impossible to find a quiet spot to unwind. If you prefer somewhere more quiet and secluded and don’t mind a bit of huffing and puffing, why not consider one of these location that not many know about?
Ghajn Barrani bay
This is one of the most difficult to get to. This little inlet is found between Marsalforn and Ramla Bay, and can be reached either from Marsalforn or Xaghra. Għajn Barrani is a Natura 2000 site and is synonymous with the fresh water springs in the area.
San Filep Bay
Just on the way to Dahlet Qorrot bay, you can also find this small cove which is the easiest to access. A small beach where lots of fallen boulders have created the perfect spot for lying out in the sun and catching a tan. The area is really popular with amateur fishermen and there is a great selection of flora and fauna in the vicinity.
Zriezaq Bay
The lovely bay is found in Qala before descending to Hondoq ir-Rummien. Inaccessible by car, and comfortable shoes is recommended. Early in the morning one can enjoy the sunrise as it is a perfect quiet location on the east side of Gozo. Don’t forget to take some water and maybe some Gbejniet with you as no kiosks can be found on site 😉
Ta Bamberin Inlet
This spot is popular with divers and some locals from the same, it is reached by foot and boat, and can be found on the right hand side of Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay. It is neither a sandy or pebble beach but is characterised with caves and rock formations.
Ta’ Gordum
This lovely inlet is found between Mgarr and Ix-Xatt l-Ahmar. It’s a nice pebbled beach with huge boulders surrounding the area. This small bay is found beneath the Fort of Chambray and is frequented by few locals only. The bay is accessible by foot and is only a short walk from the parking area located in the vicinity.
Ix-Xtajta
This mini version of ir-Ramla l-Hamra is found few minutes away from one of the most popular beaches in the Maltese islands, it is found on the left side of Ramla and is only accessible by foot. It is characterised by the same type of red sand found in Ramla Bay. It’s a great place to unwind after a long day.
