10. Visit Cittadella

With its distinctive skyline and imposing military architecture, Cittadella, is the ancient fortified city, which stands out as Gozo’s major landmark, a beacon visible from all over the island.

9. Take a dive in the deep blue clear waters

Gozo is famous for underwater diving and it has some of the best natural places to dive in. The warm temperatures make this activity possible almost all year round. Some of the best places to dive in are:

  • Blue Hole in Dwejra
  • Fungus Rock
  • Inland Sea
  • MV Xlendi Rack

 

8. Visit the Mixta Cave

This cave is situated in the locality of Nadur, overlooking the red sandy beach of Ramla Bay. Lots of Bronze Age pottery has been discovered in this cave and around it, thus confirming the fact that these caves were inhabited more then 4000 years ago. While in Nadur you can also taste a Gozitan style Pizza (Ftira) from one of Nadur’s famous bakeries; Maxokk Bakery or Mekren Bakery.

7. Take part in the Nadur Spontaneous Carnival

The Nadur Spontaneous Carnival is unique among the many manifestations around Malta. It is not organised by any committee and no rules apply. Sunset invites a multitude of masked and hooded creatures to throng the streets of Nadur – creatures wearing all kinds of funny and grotesque costumes.

6. Visit the Saltpans

On the north side of Gozo just past Qbajjar Bay one can find a chequerboard of rock cut salt-pans protruding into the sea. These 350 year old salt-pans are passed from one family generation to another. During the summer months locals scrap the salt crystals, and once collected they are stored for later use.

5. Visit a church

While you are on the island why don’t you visit at least one of the many beautiful churches. Even if you are not a churchgoer you might find these buildings quite interesting especially if you are interested in architecture and art. Some of the most popular are:

  • National Shrine of Ta’ Pinu, Gharb
  • St. George’s Basilica, Victora
  • Cathedral of the Assumption, Victoria

4. Taste the Gozitan delicacy

Food in Malta and Gozo alike is a pretty big deal. Passion, love and dedication are the key ingredients, and mostly made from natural ingredients. When in Gozo one has to try:

  • Gbejniet – Gozo Sheep cheeselets
  • Tadam Imqadded – Sun dried Tomatoes
  • Kunserva – Tomato Paste
  • Gozo Cheese Ravioli

3. Visit at least one village feast 

Every weekend throughout summer every village celebrates its own festa dedicated to its patron saint. The churches and villages are decorated with lights and statues. The main patron saint is paraded through the village streets. Colourful fireworks light up the skies throughout the feast.

2. Visit Wied il-Mielah Window

This natural arch is found on the north-western coast of Gozo, at the end of the valley of Wied il-Mielah. It is an ideal place for a light stroll along the countryside. After the collapse of the Azure Window in March 2017, this natural structure became more  popular with locals and tourists alike.

1. Swim in the crystal clear blue waters of Comino’s Blue Lagoon

Gozo smaller sister island is Comino which is accessible by a 20 minute boat ride. This small island is only inhabited by one family and is famous not only for its flora and fauna but for its crystal clear water especially that of the Blue Lagoon.
